Day Two: The Forty-Day Bible Adventure

Day Two: The Fall -- 03.11.15
THE SERPENT'S TEMPTATION | Genesis 3:1-7

The question: In what ways is the woman tempted? And the man?

My response: Satan, the most clever snake, tempted the woman by deceiving her. The snake first makes the woman question God's command, then the snake tells a lie that sounded like the truth, but definitely was not what God had said. Just like that, the woman believed the lie and ate the fruit. In verse six, it is only stated that the woman gives the fruit to the man, which he took and ate; it does not explicitly state how the man was tempted. That is, unless the temptation came from being offered the fruit.

GOD'S JUDGMENTS | Genesis 3:8-20

The question: How would you summarize God's judgments on the man and woman?

My Response: God was very disappointed with their decision to eat the forbidden fruit, so instead of allowing the man and woman to continue living their good and easy life, and instead of giving them an easy death, God introduces difficulties into their lives that have continued to be passed down through humanity to our present day.

ADAM AND EVE ARE BANISHED FROM THE GARDEN | Genesis 3:21-24

The question: What is different about Adam and Eve's life after the Fall?

My Response: After the Fall, Adam and Eve could now see the difference between good and evil, like how the serpent had said, but they definitely were not like God--which is what the serpent had falsely promised.  In addition to the judgments God made on them, God made and gave clothing to Adam and Eve to cover their shame. God also forced Adam and Eve to move out of the Garden of Eden so that they could not live forever.

THE RESULTS OF THE FALL SPREAD | Genesis 4:1-12

The question: What seem to to be the fundamental differences between Cain and Abel?

My Response: According to the text, Abel was a shepherd who gave his best as an offering to God. Cain was a farmer and simply brought some of the food he grew as an offering. God did not accept Cain's second best, so Cain got mad and took it out on his brother, which led to the first murder.
