This is a message from Dr. Anthony George's Wednesday night Bible study. Here's the link to the audio message from FBA's website. My notes are only meant to be a guide to assist in your Bible study. Enjoy! :)
We do not live for this world, but rather work for the World to come.
1 Timothy 4:6-11
- We are nourished by the inspired words of God.
- Pointing out things in scripture for insecurities, questions, and promises.
- A good servant points out biblical truths.
- The same truth we point out to people nourishes us.
- Don't just be a hungry man feeding hungry people. Be sure to eat the Bread as you give some away as well.
- The Word of God is the sustenance of the soul, not just the subject by which we share.
- Live on it before you share it.
- Matthew 4:4 NASB
- The Words of God are to be interpreted:
- Literally --> acknowledge figurative speech from literal.
- Contextually --> false teaching is derived from taking verses out of context
- Comprehensively --> how does one verse fit into the chapter, the book, testament, the whole Bible?
- Historically --> Look at it from various angles. Don't isolate yourself from others teachings
- 2 Peter 1:20 NASB
- Systematically --> evaluate the Bible and the location of the verses
- We are enriched by the purpose of a life that pleases God. 1 Timothy 4:7
- Godliness: living a life that pleases God. Doesn't mean that we are perfect. It means that we try. We put effort in it.
- Living a Godly life is the purpose of our lives.
- God's will for our lives is to be like Christ, and Christ lived a Godly life. Romans 8:29
- Godliness is a discipline that we work on for all of our lives.
- Philippians 4:8 NASB
- Never let your guard down on what goes into your mind.
- The battle ground of the Christian life is in the mind.
- Always ask: IS THIS MAKING ME MORE GODLY?
- Exercise the discipline of discernment.
- The deeper in Christ you get, the more you see, the more you overcome to get to a new season of life.
- The flesh will never want to grow deeper with Christ. We do the things we want to do. We will never want to read the Bible more, to Pray more, and so on. That's why it requires discipline to do these. Stop waiting until you want to study the Word and meditate. Use discipline to feed your soul.
- God cares about the health of your soul-- the part of you that will be with Him in Heaven. You should care about your soul too. All the care for the body is all for naught. 1 Timothy 4:8-10
- We can be beautiful in the eyes of the world, but godliness gives us beauty from the inside of our soul.
- Godliness is what makes us rich. Richness in God is worth so much more than the riches of the world.
- How do you earn rewards in Heaven? By being godly. Every sacrifice we make to be a better example of Christ makes us godlier. Colossians 3:1-2 NASB
- We are motivated by the assurance that we will see God.
- Here in this world, we are surrounded by sin. But with God, we have hope.
- 1 Corinthians 15:19 NLT
- For to this end we strive.
- 1 Timothy 4:10 especially of believers.
- Revelation 5:9 NASB
- God saved the people of the world, but He is here specifically for those who believe.
- It's one thing to say that God came to save the world, but it is another to be able to say: God came to save me! :)
- The world to come is the one that matters most.
