Title: When tempted to Dread
Base Verse: Nehemiah 6:4-15

How many people have changed their decisions and their destiny because of fear?
Fear can bring your life to a standstill.
Fear can make you make decisions you will regret for the rest of your life.
Fear can distort your view of God.

  1. Don’t let the fear of what could happen cause nothing to happen.
    1. Tactics the opposition used: persistence (don’t let others brainwash you away from what you know is true), rumors and inuendo (put a smokescreen on when people say a lot of people are saying such and such), false advocacy
    2. Nehemiah 6:9 NLT
      1. They were just trying to intimidate us, imagining that they could discourage us and stop the work. So I continued the work with even greater determination.

        1. Fear
        2. Discouragement
        3. Inaction
      3. Nehemiah 6:8 NLT
    3. False Evidence Appearing Real
    4. Nehemiah PRAYED.
      1. Use his example to avoid giving in to others
  2. Don’t let your fear of the future add regrets to your future.
    1. Satan wants you to make rash decisions.
    2. Nehemiah 6:10-15 NKJV
      1. Secret informer: deception
      2. Lock the doors: entrapment
    3. No fear is worth abandoning your convictions for. Nehemiah 6:13 NKJV
      1. For this reason he was hired
      2. The Process:
        1. Fear
        2. Panic
        3. Sin/make unwise decision
    4. Fear’s goal is not to find the problem or prescibe a solution
    5. Fear’s goal is to lure you in and laugh you out
    6. Fear’s goal is to make you think sin is the only way
    7. Fear’s goal is
    8. Fear’s goal is to haunt you with your past
    9. Fear’s goal is to make you choose stupidity over common snese
    10. Fear’s goal is for you to forgo your convictions
    11. Nehemiah prayed. Nehemiah 6:14 NLT
  3. Don’t ever believe that what’s bigger than you is bigger than God.
    1. Don’t wait until you are challenged to decide how you believe about God. Figure out how big your God is in your life before you get in a jam.
    2. Numbers 13:31 NKJV
    3. Numbers 13:32 NLT
    4. Numbers 13:33 NLT
      1. The Process
        1. What we see: giants
        2. What we feel like: grasshoppers
        3. What we conclude: give up
      2. Where is God in this process? We make
      3. Fear arises when we imagine that everything depends on us. Elizabeth Elliot
      4. Revised process:
        1. What we see: giants
        2. What we feel like: grasshoppers
        3. What we know: GOD is GREATER!
        4. What we conclude: go ahead!
      5. God is greater than your giant, be it cancer, addiction, depression, divorce, whatever it may be, God is greater.
    5. 2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV

The spirit of fear does not come from God. So where does it come from?
Do you believe God has given you the spirit of power?
Do you believe God has given you the spirit of love?
Do you believe God has given you the spirit of a sound mind?
