This is a message from Dr. Anthony George's Wednesday night Bible study. Here's the link to the audio message from FBA's website. My notes are only meant to be a guide to assist in your Bible study. Enjoy! :)
What does the culture say about the Gospel? What does the Gospel say about the culture?
Acts 19:23-27 NASB
- The Gospel insists about the authority of God.
- No one else can sit in the throne of Sovereignty.
- Here in Acts, the people in Ephesus are giving the mythical goddess Diana a temple, making her an idol.
- Ephesus is like the Athenians. Acts 17:21-23
- These exalt men, and man-crafted things, above God.
- This all comes down to the Holy Oneness of God, and the authority of His Word.
- Psalm 138:1-2 NKJV
- The Gospel clashes with worldly cultures.
- Humans reject God. Therefore, they reject God's law.
- They blamed Paul for Acts 19:26
- Jeremiah 16:20 NASB
- WWJD? Was a great question and movement, but which Jesus were you asking about?
- Your revised Jesus
- Culture's Jesus
- God's Jesus as depicted in the Holy Word
- It's either God or man: who is on the throne?
- What is absolute truth? Who determines the rules in a human rule?
- When we disregard biblical absolute, laws become determined by the shifting whims of a society and their majority.
- World leaders, media, entertainment, they drive our society's opinions.
- The scripture should be our determinant for our rules.
- Our nation's founders relied on Biblical truths to create the foundation.
- We gotta go back to seeing things in black and white; we can't be on the fence on this: things are either of God or not.
