NPS Centennial Coins!

Hey guess what else I just discovered, y'all! U.S. Mint and the National Park Service are teaming up this year for a few special, limited edition coins to celebrate the NPS Centennial.

I've been collecting our U.S. quarters for years--finished the states series twice, and have been avidly following the National Park series. And even though these limited edition coins aren't quarters, I think they're still worth checkin' out. While the designs follow the current quarter theme of  our national parks, what makes these different are their worth in currency.

Made from 90% gold, this commemorative coin is available for purchase from the U.S. Mint for a whopping $405.45, yet is only worth $5 in currency.
From the coin's description:

"The obverse (heads) features John Muir and Theodore Roosevelt with Yosemite National Park’s Half Dome in the background. Inscriptions are “LIBERTY,” “2016” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.” The reverse (tails) features the National Park Service logo. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “$5.”"

The anniversary edition silver dollar is made from 90% silver and is currently up for purchase from the U.S. Mint for $50.95, but worth only $1 in currency.

bison. Inscriptions are “LIBERTY,” “NATIONAL PARK SERVICE CENTENNIAL,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “1916” and “2016.”
The reverse (tails) depicts a Latina Folklórico dancer and the National Park Service logo, representing the multi–faceted cultural experience found in America’s national parks. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “$1,” “HERITAGE,” “CULTURE” and “PRIDE.”

Only 8.33% nickel, the commemorative half dollar is available for purchase from the U.S. Mint for $25.95, and is worth half a dollar in currency.
The obverse (heads) features a hiker discovering the majesty of the wilderness and a small child discovering a frog hiding in ferns, celebrating the diversity and breadth of the National Park Service. Inscriptions are “LIBERTY,” “2016,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “1916” and “NATIONAL PARK SERVICE.”
The reverse (tails) features the National Park Service logo.  Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “HALF DOLLAR,” “STEWARDSHIP” and “RECREATION.”
And there you have it! I think these three coins are very beautiful and gives a wonderful tribute to the NPS's centennial celebration. I personally won't be purchasing any of these, mainly because I'm a starving college student, but also because I find that the fun in collecting coins is the uncertainty of actually finding them all. I see it as an adventure in itself!

So what do you think about these coins? Will you get them? Do you collect coins too, or do you collect something else? Let me know in the comment section below! Thanks for reading!
