Mar. 23, 2016 | A Tender Moment

Luke 22:7-22 God does not work on our time table. He works on His Heavenly time table.
  • Luke 22:14 The hour had come.
  • The Lord's Supper is a prophetic event.
    • Forcasts a Kingdom
    • He wanted to share the Last Supper with his disciples before He suffered.
  • The Lord's Supper 
    • 1 Corinthians 11:26
  • The Lord's Supper is an ongoing observance.
    • Luke 22:19 Do this in remembrance of me.
    • "Do" as a present imperative, implying to do it again.
    • Rememberance was normal in Jewish culture because they were accustomed to celebrating past events; Jesus was instilling a new event.
    • Days of Egypt--Moses and the plagues, the last plague where firstborns were killed and those with lambs blood over their doors would be passed over. Origin of Passover. Jesus is our Lamb without blemish--His bloodshed covered our sins so that His wrath passes over us! 
    • Jesus didn't come here to just do miracles. His death on the cross was the primary mission.
  • Jesus's death inaugurated the New Covenant. 
    • Luke 22:20 
    • Links to the church, people of Israel, and also redeems all of humanity
    • Jeremiah 31:31
    • On our behalf, because we couldn't pay for it, Jesus paid our sin debt in full for us
    • John 10:11 substitution. 
    • 1 Thessalonians 5:9-10 
    • Titus 2:13-14
    • His for us allows us to be with Him.
    • 1 Peter 3:18
    • Islamic tradition believes that if they die for God, they will go to Heaven. 
    • Christians believe that we will go to heaven because Jesus Christ died for us.
  • Jesus's death requires a personal response.
    • The bread was a symbol of His body, but it represented Him. We have a choice in this. Will you accept His bread?
