Date: October 14, 2018
Preacher: Dr. Charles Stanley
Title:
Base Verse: Colossians 3:1-8

On any given day, what goes through your mind the most? We are all the products of what goes through our mind every day. Your brain to your body is the same as the airport control tower. So what are you thinking? We all choose to believe or not believe something. There are no exceptions. Whatever I hold in my mind, day after day, that is what you’ll become.

Different mindsets:
  • clogged mind
    • Stuck on the same ideas over and over
  • cluttered mind
    • mind full of various ideas and is disorganized
  • carnal mind-sensual, lustful, sexual
    • focused on fleshly desires
  • critical mind
    • Can’t accept feedback
  • God-focused mind
    • What does God say about this?
Are you happy with yourself? If not, it is never too late to change.

  1. What clogs the mind?
    1. Insecurity
    2. Dishonesty
    3. Rebellious Spirit (self proclaimed freedom)
    4. Immorality
    5. Fear
    6. Jealousy
  2. What clouds your mind?
    1. I’m not important.
      1. But you are. Look at the cross. Jesus died for each and every one of us, whether or not you believe it.
    2. I can’t.
      1. Who says you can’t? Have you tried?
      2. When you say you can’t, you limit God’s power.
    3. Things just don’t seem to work out for me.
      1. Why do you think that? Just because you’ve had a few setbacks in your life?
    4. I will never get out of debt.
      1. Don’t ever think that. We choose to be in debt; financial decisions are decisions we make.
    5. I’ll never be successful.
      1. How long do you need to think that to become a failure? Just long enough to give up.

God doesn’t want us to limit ourselves to thoughts that are not His. He wants us to look up to Him to get us through each moment of our lives.

Philippians 4:13
2 Corinthians 10:4-5
  • You do not know your potential is until you keep going and reach it.
Romans 12:1-2
  • We don’t know what God has in store in your life. Are you willing to pray and ask God to move your mind and heart to fully trust in Him and see where He takes you?
  • When you stand in front of a full length mirror, what do you say?
    • Oh my goodness.
    • God, this is who I am. Take me and use me.
We are our own biggest stumbling block. And it all starts in the mind. We are responsible for our own thinking until we can think no more. We are accountable to God for our lives; He has allowed us to be creative and have free will of choice. Who do you want to be to the last of your days? Get a sheet of paper and write down your answer.
